Is Inner Care a Part of Your Self-Care? Why It Matters for Your Skin
How do you know if your beauty ritual is truly complete? Real radiance isn’t just what you put on your skin — it starts with how you care for yourself on the inside.
I think about beauty rituals in two categories: outer and inner. Most people have the outer part covered — or at least they’re working on it. The inner part is almost always what’s missing. And in my experience, it’s the piece that makes the biggest difference in how someone actually feels in their skin.
What does inner care actually mean?
Inner care is how you tend to your mind, your stress, and your emotional wellbeing. It’s the practices that restore you rather than deplete you — solitude, stillness, time in nature, reading, journaling, movement, rest. These aren’t extras. They’re the foundation that everything else is built on.
When we skip inner care — when we put ourselves last, run on empty, and push through exhaustion — it shows up on our skin. Elevated cortisol disrupts the barrier, triggers breakouts, worsens redness, and accelerates aging. No serum compensates for chronic stress. The most effective thing you can do for your skin is also take care of your nervous system.
Why inner care is the missing piece for so many women
I see this pattern constantly: someone invests in great products, follows a solid routine, and still feels like something isn’t working. Often, what’s missing isn’t a better product — it’s rest, consistency, and a sense of genuine care for themselves rather than just going through the motions.
When you understand your own needs — when you’re rested, grounded, and not running on fumes — your skin responds. The glow that comes from that isn’t something a treatment can replicate. It’s real, and it’s visible.
Simple ways to build inner care into your ritual
Inner care doesn’t have to be elaborate. Some of the most effective practices are the simplest:
- Journaling — even five minutes of free writing to process what’s on your mind
- Time in nature — a walk without your phone, fresh air, natural light
- Reading — something that nourishes rather than stimulates
- Stillness — a few minutes of quiet before the day starts or after it ends
- Protecting your sleep — the single most underrated beauty treatment there is
The key is consistency. Small acts of inner care done regularly compound over time — just like your skincare routine.
The Beauty Bible: a guided framework for both
If you’re looking for structure to bring your inner and outer rituals together, the Beauty Bible is exactly that. It’s a guided resource I created to help you build your beauty ritual with intention — tracking your skin, journaling your progress, and working through the Glow Challenge inside it. It’s the framework that makes self-care sustainable rather than aspirational.
