Acne & Breakouts

Breaking out at thirty-five is not a personal failing, and it does not respond to what worked at fifteen. Clearing skin means calming it, not stripping it.

Acne and breakout treatment at The Skincare Boutique

Is this your skin?

  • Breakouts along the jaw, chin, and lower cheeks, often on a monthly rhythm
  • Congestion, blackheads, and pores that look larger than they used to
  • Dark or red marks that linger for weeks after a breakout heals
  • Skin that is breaking out and feeling tight, flaky, or irritated at the same time
  • Products that worked for a few weeks and then stopped, or made things worse
  • A routine that keeps growing because nothing quite fixes it

Why you are breaking out

Adult breakouts rarely have a single cause. In the treatment room I usually find three or four things stacked on top of each other, and the reason nothing has worked is that each product you tried addressed only one of them.

Hormones. Fluctuations through your cycle, in perimenopause, or after coming off birth control drive oil production and change how quickly skin sheds. This is why adult acne so often sits along the jaw and chin. If you are also noticing dryness and loss of firmness alongside breakouts, hormonal skin changes may be the larger picture.

A damaged barrier. This is the one almost everyone misses. Months of acids, benzoyl peroxide, and foaming cleansers strip the skin's protective layer. Skin responds by producing more oil and becoming more reactive, so you break out more, treat harder, and the cycle tightens. Skin that is both oily and flaky is nearly always a barrier problem wearing an acne costume.

Pore-clogging products. Not just skincare. Hair products, sunscreens, foundations, and even laundry detergent. This is the fastest thing to identify and often the fastest to fix.

Stress and sleep. Cortisol raises inflammation and slows healing. It will not be the whole answer, but it explains why breakouts arrive in the worst weeks.

What helps, and what makes it worse

What helps

  • A gentle, non-foaming cleanser used twice daily
  • One active ingredient, introduced slowly and given six weeks
  • Moisturizer every day, including on oily skin
  • Daily SPF, which prevents the dark marks left behind
  • Professional extractions performed with proper preparation
  • Treating the barrier and the breakout at the same time

What makes it worse

  • Scrubs and stripping cleansers that leave skin squeaky
  • Stacking acids, retinol, and benzoyl peroxide together
  • Skipping moisturizer to keep skin dry
  • Picking, which turns a breakout into a mark that lasts months
  • Changing products every two weeks before anything can work
  • Teen acne products used on adult skin

How I treat it here

Every facial is built in the room for the skin in front of me, so nothing below is a fixed protocol. These are the treatments I reach for most when breakouts are the primary concern.

Vitality & Renew 50 min · $195

My usual starting point for congestion and texture. Enzyme exfoliation releases what is trapped in the pore, followed by safe professional extractions, without the aggression that sets reactive skin off.

Ageless Glow Peel 35 to 45 min · $175

For the marks breakouts leave behind. This is the one that clears lingering pigment and evens tone once active breakouts are under control. Expect light flaking for a few days.

Tighten & Glow RF 60 min · $265

When breakouts and loss of firmness are happening together, which is common from the mid-forties onward. Radiofrequency addresses laxity while the treatment still manages congestion.

Teen Facial 45 to 55 min · $125

For ages 13 to 17. A clear-skin treatment with education built in, so they leave understanding their own skin rather than depending on someone else to manage it.

At home, the routine matters more than the facial. The Boutique Glow Method is thirty days on five medical-grade products with daily guidance from me, which is usually how long it takes to see whether something is genuinely working. You can also browse the acne collection directly, though I would rather tell you what you need before you buy it.

What I will tell you honestly

Most breakouts improve meaningfully within two to three treatment cycles, roughly eight to twelve weeks, when the home routine is right. Anyone promising faster than that is selling you something.

Deep, painful cystic acne and severe scarring need a dermatologist, and sometimes prescription medication. I will say so plainly rather than take your money for a course of facials that will not resolve it. Estheticians and dermatologists work well together, and I am happy to work alongside yours.

Please stop picking. It is the single fastest way to turn a breakout that would have cleared in days into a mark that stays for months.

Questions I get asked

Will extractions make me break out more?

Done properly, no. Skin is softened and prepared first so the pore releases rather than tears. You may see mild redness for a few hours. Purging in the first weeks of a new active is different and normal, and I will tell you which one you are seeing.

How soon will I see a difference?

Congestion and texture usually improve after the first treatment. Real, lasting change takes eight to twelve weeks, because that is how long skin needs to complete new cycles. This is why the membership exists, since the four to six week rhythm is what produces results.

My skin is oily and flaky at the same time. What is happening?

That is almost always a damaged barrier rather than two separate problems. Skin that has been stripped overproduces oil to compensate while the surface stays dehydrated. It is very fixable, and it usually means doing less rather than more.

Can I come in with an active breakout?

Yes, and that is often the best time. I will adjust the treatment to what your skin can tolerate that day.

Is this suitable for teenagers?

Yes. The Teen Facial is designed for ages 13 to 17 and I keep it gentle and educational. Parents are welcome to stay.
