Menopause & Hormonal Skin Changes

Skin Concern

Menopause & hormonal skin

Dry where you were oily. Breaking out at fifty. A jawline that softened over one winter. Your skin is not failing you, it is responding to a change in its conditions, and it responds well to being treated for the conditions it is actually in.

Facial treatment for hormonal skin changes at The Skincare Boutique

Most women arrive here having already tried three or four things.

Richer creams that did not help. A stronger acid that made things worse. A routine that keeps growing because nothing quite works. By the time we meet, the barrier is usually more compromised than the hormones alone would have made it.

So we start by taking things away. Then we rebuild, in an order that suits skin at this stage rather than skin from ten years ago.

If you want the full explanation of what oestrogen decline is doing and how it changes across perimenopause, menopause and after, I have written that out in Your skin in perimenopause and menopause. This page is about what I do about it.

Tight and dull

Skin that reads dry and finely creased no matter how rich the moisturiser, often before any real loss of firmness.

Suddenly reactive

Stinging or flushing from products you used comfortably for years.

Breakouts along the jaw

Congestion and spots for the first time in decades, on skin that is simultaneously dry elsewhere.

A softer jawline

Laxity through the jaw and neck that seemed to arrive all at once rather than gradually.

Lines that stay

Fine lines still visible once your face has relaxed, particularly around the mouth and eyes.

Uneven tone

Patches and pigment that darkened and never fully faded.

What I do differently at this stage

  • Barrier before anything elseIf skin is reactive, no firming treatment will hold. We fix the foundation first, and it usually takes less time than people expect.
  • Gentler exfoliationEnzymes and lower-strength work instead of the aggressive resurfacing that suits younger, more resilient skin.
  • Build rather than removeTreatments chosen for what they stimulate, not how much they take off.
  • The neck, every timeIt is where laxity shows first and where almost everyone has under-invested. Everything above the jaw continues below it.
  • Alternating modalitiesMicrocurrent and radiofrequency do different jobs. Most of my long-term clients rotate them rather than choosing one.
  • Realistic home careFew enough steps that you will actually do them, chosen for tolerance rather than strength.

Most routines at this stage are working against the skin. The first change is usually subtraction.

Melanie White at home with her Organiglo skincare ritual

At home matters more than the facial

An hour with me every four to six weeks is roughly ten hours a year. Your home routine is every day, and at this stage it is doing most of the work.

The Boutique Glow Method is thirty days on five medical-grade products with daily guidance from me, which is usually how long it takes to know whether something is genuinely working. If your skin has become reactive, we will find what it tolerates first.

If you would rather build gradually, The Rituals are my Organiglo routines bundled in the order they should be used, which is the gentler starting point for skin that has become reactive. When you are ready for something more corrective, The Protocols are the medical-grade equivalent.

If you would rather I simply looked at what you already own and told you what to keep and what to stop, that is The Glow Edit, and $100 of it comes back toward the Method.

I am a licensed esthetician, not a physician. Hormonal change affects far more than skin, and questions about hormone therapy, sleep, mood, or any symptom that concerns you belong with your doctor. I am glad to work alongside whatever care you are receiving, and I will tell you plainly when something is outside what skincare can address.

Let's look at your skin as it is now

An hour on what your skin is actually asking for at this stage, and a plan built for the life you are living rather than the one you had at thirty-five.
